Situated on Eastgate Street in historic Bury St Edmunds we are at the heart of a thriving community. We are a family venue and welcome children and well behaved dogs! We have one of the largest beer gardens in Bury St Edmunds perfect for Al fresco Dining and Enjoying the Sunshine.
We provide hosting for parties and private events and you can even hire our garden Marquee for special occasions including weddings! We also have a fantastic pool table for people who want to kick back and enjoy a bit of friendly competition!
Opening around 1841 The Greyhound proved a popular place to drink, eat and be merry. The Greyhound was originally run by a Mr Robert Wilkinson, who was believed to challenge anyone to contradict “that there was no better house in the town, wether large or small, as far as management and conduct were concerned”. This earned the pub a reputation of an orderly and well conducted house.
As the century went on, and the railway opened from Bury St Edmunds to Sudbury, in 1865 business in the pub sky rocketed. Being only sixty yards from the station (now Bury Bowl and Pot Black) it proved a popular venue for, not only the locals, but for people visiting the town.
There have been many stories about the pub and there is so much history it would take forever to write it up. Why not ask a member of staff about the ghost!
From food and drink to entertainment and events, The Greyhound has it all! We endeavour to provide high quality all the year round with our adapting menus, seasonal ales, and service with a smile!
At The Greyhound, we provide a wide array of different foods from our Ploughman’s lunch to our fantastic fresh baguettes, our traditional toad in the hole, we also cook vegetarian and wheat free food!
Are you a fan of Cask ale? Why not pop in and try some of our Cask ales? With an ever changing selection on all year round there will always be something to try. And as usual every pint is served with a smile.
